Written through the lenses of constructivism and performance studies, A New Exit adapts Jean-Paul Sartre’s 1945 play, No Exit, for a contemporary American audience. Set in modern day United States, the adaptation explores the corruption of modern democracy, political polarization, and performance of identity during conflict in our current political climate. By challenging dominant ideology through the examination of social and cultural constructions, A New Exit exposes the absurdist nature of the political climate in the United States.
